Artificial Intelligence (AI) has arrived in public education. Not as a distant revolution, but as a concrete tool that demands a fundamental question from us: are we using AI to innovate or to perpetuate inequalities?

For Fundação 1Bi, which works daily in public schools, the answer lies in balance. It is not enough simply to implement technology; it must serve a greater purpose—that of equity. This means focusing innovation on those who need it most: the public-school teacher, often overburdened, and the student, who, in a situation of vulnerability, needs individualized attention.

The greatest challenge of artificial intelligence is ensuring that it does not widen existing inequalities, such as the digital and educational divides. Without adequate infrastructure, access to quality internet, and appropriate training, technology becomes a privilege rather than a right. Studies in Brazil, such as "Digital inequality as a limiting factor in the democratization of technological innovations" (Cemipa, 2025), emphasize that innovation needs digital inclusion and simplified use as its foundations, especially in public education.

AI as an Educator’s Ally: The Practical Example of AprendiZAP

At Fundação 1Bi, we believe that artificial intelligence did not come to replace teachers, but to be their greatest ally. If there is one thing educators know from experience, it is the lack of time. This is precisely where technology should act: freeing them to fully assume their irreplaceable role as pedagogical mediators and human caregivers.

The development of tools such as AprendiZAP exemplifies this philosophy in practice. By using AI to create, quickly and effectively, thousands of activities based on active-learning methodologies, we remove hours of repetitive tasks from the teacher’s routine. The result? More free time for what truly matters:

1. Personalize Teaching: Adapt the content to better meet the specific needs of each student or class, enhancing results.

2. Deepen the Pedagogical Relationship: Focus on dialogue, active listening, and pedagogical interventions, which are the true drivers of meaningful learning.

This model of educational innovation reinforces our view that technology should be an engine of social transformation, aligned with ethical and inclusive purposes:

"Technology should be used to promote a more democratic and inclusive education, not merely to foster the profits of private companies" (EduCAPES, 2024).

Our commitment as a foundation is to ensure that this powerful tool is accessible, ethical, and focused on real results in education. After all, we believe that when teachers have time and support, transformation takes place both inside and outside the classroom.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) must go beyond being merely an isolated tool in public education; it must become a robust equity policy. To ensure that technological innovation reduces inequalities rather than deepening them, Brazil must focus on three non-negotiable areas.

Three Pillars for Equitable Innovation

  1. Critical Teacher Training: Educators are the central architects of learning. They need to be trained not only to use AI, but also to question its biases and limitations, maintaining the human being at the center of the process. Teachers are the ones who prevent the uncritical use of technology.

  2. Data Ethics and Transparency: In a system that handles sensitive data, privacy and public trust are the foundation. It is vital to ensure full transparency about how information is collected and used, as highlighted by national studies such as "Artificial intelligence in education: envisioning possibilities and minimizing challenges" (Jornal da USP, 2024).

  3. National Development of Solutions: AI in education needs to reflect our diversity. It is crucial to support the creation of Brazilian solutions, such as INCT IA.Edu, focused on resource-constrained contexts and the realities of our public system.

Technology is the means, not the end. By prioritizing practical, ethical, and teacher-centered solutions, AI is consolidated as a strategic ally of equity in Brazil.

To accelerate this transformation, we must incorporate AI literacy,  into the training curricula for new educators, turning them into protagonists.
